Activities

If you are in search of action while on holiday then this area has much to offer.

Tank Driving

We know that not all of our guests will want to spend their entire holiday being 'peaceful and quiet' and for those who fancy something a bit more adventurous we suggest a visit to nearby Galloway Tanks. Set in rolling farmland a few miles from Whithorn, Galloway Tanks has one of Scotland's largest collection of military vehicles. With prior booking, visitors can be driven in a tank OR be shown how to drive a tank themselves! Interested? Go to www.gallowaytanks.co.uk

Riding

Again only a few miles from Whithorn, horse lovers can enjoy off road riding over some of our prettiest countryside. Here, Val Crank runs accompanied 2 hour rides and also offers lessons and carriage driving. Booking for this is essential. If you want to find out more contact
Mrs V Crank, Telephone: 01988 700518 E-mail: valcrank50@hotmail.com

Cycling

Our peaceful roads and low lying, undulating countryside are ideal for the keen cyclist to explore the area on two wheels.  Four colour-coded signposted routes take cyclists around this attractive and varied area, which is rich in scenery, history, culture and wildlife. Mountain Biking

Galloway Forest Park is only about half an hour's drive from Whithorn. Here you'll find some of the best mountain biking terrain in the UK with the famous '7 Stanes Mountain Biking Route.' A brand new cycling route has recently been launched at Kirroughtree Visitors Centre where visitors can also hire bikes. Not to be missed -  www.7stanesmountainbiking.com

Golf

We are fortunate in having two excellent golf courses close by. St. Medans Golf Club near Monreith unusually has 18 tees playing to 9 holes and has its own challenges for beginners and more experienced alike. Stunning views from this course, the most southerly in Scotland make a golfing day out here an unforgettable experience.

Head north from Mansefield and you'll find Wigtownshire County Golf Club, again open to all visitors all year round.  The 'County' is one of the most popular holiday golf courses in South West Scotland, an 18-hole, true links course situated on the shores of Luce Bay. www.wigtownshirecountygolfclub.com

Angling

Sea angling is very popular off the Machars coast.  It's possible to bring your own boat and launch it off the slip way at nearby Isle of Whithorn or you may prefer to charter a boat to tackle the waters of the Solway which can be challenging at times. Most species recorded in the UK can be caught here from around May when the water temperature begins to rise.
